Sonar’s “No Boring Legal Stuff” Guide

A.K.A. The Rules of the Game, How We Keep It Chill, and Why You Should Care

TL;DR (For the Lazy Readers 🙃)

  • Sonar is here to support you. Chat with Sonny anytime about stress, school, friendships, or whatever’s on your mind.
  • Real people have your back. Wellbeing Companions can check in on your chats to offer extra support when needed.
  • Your privacy matters. We keep your info safe, don’t sell your data, and only share with your school if there’s a serious safety concern.
  • Let’s keep Sonar a safe space. Be kind, respectful, and use it for support—not for trolling.

Welcome to Sonar! Here’s the Deal.

Life can be messy, stressful, or just plain weird. That’s where Sonar comes in—we’re your mental Wellbeing Companion, here to offer support, guidance, and helpful tools when you need them.

We take your privacy seriously. We don’t sell your data. We don’t spy on your chats. You’re in control of your info.

Speaking of privacy, your chats are confidential. We’re NOT therapy. We’re NOT crisis support. We ARE a place to chat, check in, and get helpful tips.

1. The Basics (a.k.a. "Wait, What is Sonar?")

We know being a student today comes with its own set of challenges, and that's where we step in. Here's how Sonar's got your back:

  • Meet Sonny: Our masked superhero who's always ready to chat. Whether you're stressed about exams, dealing with friend drama, or just need someone to talk to, Sonny's here to listen and offer support.
  • Real People, Real Support: Behind every conversation with Sonny is a trained Wellbeing Companion—a real person who ensures you're getting the best advice and support tailored just for you.
  • Proactive Check-ins: Sometimes, we all need a little nudge. With your permission, Sonar can keep an eye out for signs you might be feeling down and reach out before things get overwhelming.
  • Bridge to More Help: If chatting with Sonny isn’t enough, Sonar can connect you to school counselors, trusted adults, or other resources to make sure you get the support that’s right for you.

Remember, while Sonar is here to support you, it's not a replacement for therapy or emergency services. If you're in immediate danger or crisis, please call 911 or talk to a trusted adult.

Note: Sonar is currently available for students in the United States. If you're under 13, make sure to get permission from a parent or guardian before using our services.

2. Your Privacy: What We Know (And What We DON’T)

Privacy is a big deal to us. Here’s what we do (and don’t do) with your data.

What We Collect (and Why)

  • Your Account Info: Name, email, and phone number. → So you can log in and get support.
  • How You Use Sonar: When and how often you chat with Sonny. → So we can hyper personalize your experience and improve our service.

Who Sees Your Data?

  • Wellbeing Companions: These are trained support staff who can review chats with Sonny to make sure you’re getting the right help.
  • Tech Helpers: Some anonymous data goes to our tech team so they can make Sonar better.
  • Authorities: Only in emergencies. If we think you’re in immediate danger, we may share information with emergency responders, your school, or trusted adults who can step in to help.

What We DON’T Do

  • We don’t sell your data.
  • We don’t track your location.
  • We don’t share your chats with your school unless there’s a real safety risk.
  • No random snooping. Wellbeing Companions only check chats to offer support—not just because they can.

Your Privacy, Your Choice: If you ever feel uncomfortable, you can ask a Wellbeing Companion to stop checking your chats.

3. The Rules (a.k.a. “How to Not Get Banned”)

  • Be kind—no bullying, harassment, or spreading false info.
  • Keep your account info private (don’t share your password).
  • Don’t try to hack or break the system (we see you, future hackers 👀).
  • If something seems off, tell us at support@sonarmentalhealth.com.

🚫 What Sonar Is NOT For:

  • Emergency situations (if you need immediate help, call 911 or talk to a trusted adult).
  • Medical or therapy-level help (we’re support, not doctors).
  • Trolling, or anything that makes Sonar less of a safe space.

4. Changes & Updates (Because the Internet Evolves)

We might update these terms sometimes. If we make big changes, we’ll let you know through the app or email.

5. Got Issues? Here’s How We Handle Disputes

If you have a disagreement with us, we try to solve things peacefully through a process called arbitration. This means no big lawsuits—just a fair way to work things out.

6. Need Help?

If you have questions, concerns, or just want to say hi, email us at support@sonarmentalhealth.com.

💙 Final Note: Sonar is here to support YOU. Let’s keep it safe, helpful, and awesome for everyone. ✨

Aaaand that’s it! You made it to the end. 🎉 Now go chat with Sonny and take care of yourself.
